What is the point of being a bird
if you can not fly?
Probably the same as a little girl
who can�t cry out
and must hide herself in the
piles of rocks
stacked up to protect the beach

So what is the use of having long legs
if you can never outrun
being a child with a shut mouth
and the adult that grows out of her
who learns to speak
like a car wreck
skidding her words
and spitting them through her teeth
before she loses speed

If you can not fly away
and you cannot out run
these things you�ve done and
tried to destroy silently
by hiding your head and
swallowing down the sand
eating your words underground and
leaving your body outside as a target

What is the worth of being alive
when you must live with this deathly quiet?
